Based on the information you have entered above, the following are the total minimum hardware requirements:

Number of ServersCPU Per ServerRAM Per ServerLive Hard Drives Per ServerLive Storage Per ServerArchive Storage Per Server

Important Notes

  • The calculator is for the NetDVMS, NetDVR and ProSight SMB NVR software. If using the NetEVS software, this calculator should only be used for Storage or Bandwidth calculations.
  • Results assume that camera components on each server are configured in the same way
  • Supported Operating Systems are Microsoft XP Professional, Vista (Business and Ultimate), 2003 Server and 2008 Server
  • For optimal network security, two Network Cards are suggested, one to stream the video, and one for client access.
  • When configuring your recording server, you will need a server chassis that can support the appropriate number of hard drives. It is recommended to use one separate drive for the Operating System and applications, plus the number of hard drives required for writing live video. Live video can also be recorded directly to an attached storage device via Fiber, SCSI, or ISCSI, for more information please see NVR and Storage Archiving Scenarios. Archiving (long term storage) is often mapped to an attached storage device such as a NAS or SAN device. NAS and SAN devices can leverage any type of drives or RAID configurations and have no configuration restrictions pertaining to the video archiving process. For best performance OnSSI recommends recording and archiving to the same drive volume.
  • The storage and/or hardware recommendations for the users system configuration, as entered, are an estimate based on extensive performance testing done by OnSSI. It is recommended to add hardware/storage overhead to accommodate future changes. OnSSI has made every effort to assure the accuracy of the information provided, however it will assume no liability for damages or losses resulting from the use of the information.
The following frame sizes were used for CPU and Hard drive performance testing:
  • 640 x 480 resolution 32 KB
  • 1280 x 1024 resolution 80 KB
  • 1600 x 1200 resolution 130 KB
  • 2048 x 1536 resolution 180 KB
  • 2560 x 1920 resolution 300 KB
* Fast hard drives include SCSI and SAS drives; slow hard drives include SATA drives.
